Chest Tubes Out

Nurse Kim and Nurse Practitioner Courtney removed the last two chest draining tubes today. Next on the agenda... breathing tube. Maybe later today, maybe tomorrow.

  1. Good progress!!! Hoping for extubation soon :) Take it from me, you don't want them to take that out until they are sure she is ready... we made that mistake and it was quite the disaster! She'll get there...loving the great news. In my thoughts always,

  3. Good news and a great laugh! I was the queen peeping Tom (just ask any of the nurses). Greg actually called me the queen HIPPA violator. If I couldn't figure out the other situations for myself, then I would trick the staff into telling me!!! So, yes I was nosy, but I loved to know everyones stories and I needed friends on the unit. Sometimes you have to escape your room to gain perspective. . . and that unit is full of perspective. Hang in there. Slow and steady is good! I just got back in town. I will be by the unit to visit sometime soon (probably Saturday).
    Love and prayers-

  4. PS: She will feel so much better with those chest tubes out. They say those tubes are VERY uncomfortable. It should help her to not freak out as much when she wakes up more in preparation for extubation.

  5. Yaaaay! Was my first reaction to reading this! Yes, I heard the chest tubes are the most uncomfortable (painful) thing. So, so glad she is making progress and they are out, hopefully the breathing tube will be soon. I loved your post about missing your baby. I can imagine Melodie, I think that is why maybe it is you think harder this time around or newborn surgery? I'm thinking now, they are more aware, and you also are more aware and in love with them, as you say you miss them, being their cute selves. Hope she can be in your arms and smiling again soon. Please also let me know if I can help you in anyway, I am not too far. I can even take dinner or lunch for you and or your family.
